Masterclass in Biomimicry

Lead Facilitator: Jess Berliner
Support: Alistair Daynes

This full-day masterclass offers a practical introduction to innovation through the lens of biomimicry – an approach that looks to nature for inspiration to solve complex human challenges.

Biomimicry provides a transformative framework for innovation. By rethinking how we define and frame problems, and by learning from nature’s time-tested strategies, participants will explore how to design solutions that are not only effective, but also resilient, adaptive, and aligned with life on Earth.

At the core of biomimicry lies curiosity – observation, diverse perspectives, and critical and creative thinking. These essential skills, often overlooked in traditional education and business, are reintroduced in this masterclass to help participants generate more meaningful and impactful solutions.

Through engaging inputs and hands-on exercises, participants will:

  • Gain a solid understanding of biomimicry principles, concepts, and real-world applications
  • Experience learning directly from nature during a practical session in a nearby park
  • Apply biomimicry tools and methods to their own projects or challenges

Inspired by nature’s elegant and life-friendly solutions, participants will be encouraged to rethink conventional approaches, challenge existing assumptions, and elevate their standards for innovation.

By the end of the masterclass, participants will have developed practical, lifelong skills to:

  • Reframe challenges more effectively
  • Identify and translate insights from nature into innovative solutions
  • Apply biomimicry thinking across different contexts
  • Create resilient, adaptive, and forward-looking innovations

Learning Outcomes

  • Increased awareness and understanding of biomimicry, its principles, and applications
  • Hands-on experience applying biomimicry in a real-world, nature-based setting
  • Practical application of biomimicry to participants’ own projects or ideas

Participants will receive a certificate issued by Learn Biomimicry, co-branded with 4InnoPipe2 and Flames@SmileHigh.
